Join Peter for this new 3-week workshop and personalised feedback session, exploring the humble still-life, utilising common objects found around the home.
Focussing on noticing the beauty in the everyday, being mindful and present in the moment, during this course Peter will guide you in how to paint 2 different still life set-ups, one per week. Time will be taken to explore interesting and engaging compositions, the power of tonal values and how to mix colours accurately, giving you the confidence and knowledge to carry you forward in your own painting practice.
Suitable for artists of all abilities and particularly ideal for beginner artists new to still-life painting and/or oil painting.
This class is also suitable for those looking to develop their skills in painting in general.
During the two sessions, you will cover the following:
- How to create an interesting and compelling composition
- How tonal values help creature a strong painting
- Colour harmonies and balance
- How to keep your paintings loose and fuss-free
- The diverse range of edges and marks you can create with your brushes
- Excellent images to work from (or you can use your own images)
By the end of these 2 workshops, you will have created 2 different still-life paintings and Peter will be able to offer you specific feedback during the third Zoom meeting.
Peter Keegan is a professional artist living and working in Buckinghamshire, UK, specialising in oil painting. Trained at Cardiff School of Art, Peter follows traditional techniques but uses them in a way to depict his subjects in a modern and original style. His aim in portraiture is to always create a painting or drawing that reflects the subject’s likeness and personality. Peter also paints and exhibits figure paintings, local landscapes and still life paintings. Peter co-hosts the weekly podcast Ask an Artist: the podcast dedicated to offering free advice and guidance about the business side of being an artist.
