During this 2 week course, artist Peter Keegan will introduce you to a more expressive approach to portrait painting. From using a bright and colourful palette, with bold mark making, to considering more varied and interesting compositions and poses, this course has been designed to introduce you to a more exciting and dynamic approach to portrait painting.
During the 2 sessions, we will cover:
• Understanding colour temperature, tone and why this is key
• How to utilise dynamic and differing brushwork and mark making
• The similarities and differences to conventional portraiture
• Knowing what to include, what to leave out and knowing when to finish
This course is suitable for artists who already have some experience of portrait painting.
Peter Keegan is a professional artist living and working in Buckinghamshire, UK, specialising in oil painting. Trained at Cardiff School of Art, Peter follows traditional techniques but uses them in a way to depict his subjects in a modern and original style. His aim in portraiture is to always create a painting or drawing that reflects the subject’s likeness and personality. Peter also paints and exhibits figure paintings, local landscapes and still life paintings. Peter co-hosts the weekly podcast Ask an Artist: the podcast dedicated to offering free advice and guidance about the business side of being an artist.
