Although painting abstract landscapes may appear to be simple on the surface, the actual successful execution is actually far more difficult. How do we simplify a complicated mosaic of fields? How do we elevate the prosaic pastoral scene to something extraordinary? The solution is careful use of shape and colour.
In this two-week workshop I will explain my abstracting approach including demonstrations and exercises. This workshop will help build your understanding of simplification, and encourage you to experiment, with the ultimate goal of improving your practise. Although my demonstrations will be produced in acrylic, this course will be suitable for oil, pastel and watercolour artists too, as the focus will be on composition and colour palette choices.
