This spring, join award-winning artist Patty Voje for a special farm animal painting workshop! From their majesty to their messiness, farm animals provide the perfect inspiration to loosen up and bring energy to your paintings.
In this three-session workshop, you’ll paint in the alla prima style—completing a small painting in a single sitting. Each session will focus on a different animal: (cow, pig & chick). You’ll learn how to simplify forms, highlight expressive features, and capture the unique spirit of each animal using bigger brushes, more paint, and looser strokes.
What You’ll Learn:
• Techniques to create a quick underpainting to establish values
• Exercises to develop looser, more confident brushwork
• Fundamentals of color harmony, temperature, and mixing
• Strategies to bring life and movement into your paintings
Each session includes live demonstrations, discussions on materials and techniques, and assignments to reinforce your learning. Patty will also guide you through exercises designed to strengthen your skills and confidence. At the end of each session, there will be time for Q&A, and individual feedback on assignments will be provided on the class message board.
Class Materials & Reference Photos:
Reference photos from the demonstrations will be posted in advance so students can paint the same animal. You are also welcome to use your own reference photos—if you choose to do so, please have three images (one per class) ready. Tips on selecting strong reference photos will be included in the materials list.
This workshop is open to all skill levels.
