Explore collage as an unexpected starting point for painting in this three-week course with Patrick Lee. Using newspapers, magazines, old drawings, found papers and more, students will build layered surfaces that are rich with shape, color, pattern, and texture. Working over these dynamic foundations in paint, Patrick will demonstrate how to respond intuitively to what emerges, developing each piece through thoughtful additions of color, line, and structure. Guided by chance and refined through intention, this process reveals surprising relationships and encourages bold, inventive compositions.
