Rule Four in artist and educator Sister Corita Kent’s “Immaculate Heart College Art Department Rules” commands students to “consider everything an experiment.” In this five-week class, students will experiment with materials and methods of art making, while guided and inspired by images and videos of the work of contemporary artists. Each week will address a different concept: scale, edges, pattern, and illusion. Some exercises will be done during our meetings on zoom, but students will be encouraged to continue investigating on their own time and at their own pace. Artists of all levels of experience are welcome.

Nancy Gruskin is a figurative and still life painter from Concord, Massachusetts.  She received a B.A. in Art History and Studio Art from Connecticut College and an M.A. and a Ph.D. in Art History from Boston University.  After teaching architectural history for several years, she now devotes herself to painting full-time.  Her paintings emerge from everyday experiences and familiar views and are based on direct observation, photographs, invention and memory. www.nancygruskin.com
