As artists, we tend to come home from vacations with hundreds of photos. While they are great reminders of our experiences, they often feel flat or uninspiring when we try to paint from them. In this online workshop, Mel will guide you through the process of choosing which images would translate well into paintings, and then help you practice turning them into expressive works of art, with mood and meaning.
Through demos, practical exercises, and supportive discussion, we will transform our ordinary snapshots into personal creations. By the end of the month, you’ll have more confidence and a creative toolkit for tackling those folders of precious trip pics. Using Mel’s reference photos and/or your own, we’ll explore composition, color harmony, and atmospheric perspective. Learn to go beyond what the camera saw and create paintings that feel personal and alive!
Topics covered include:
• What to Leave Out: Edit the noise and emphasize the essentials
• Color Harmony & Mood: Move beyond the literal and recreate a feeling
• Atmospheric Perspective: Use distance, edges, and hues to create space and depth
