Harness the power of limited values to strengthen your design and improve your paintings. As the saying goes: “Value does the work and color takes the credit.” In this class you will learn to simplify your subject in simple shape terms and use your value studies as a roadmap to a full color painting. This invaluable approach allows you to organize your shapes and values to work out compositional issues before dealing with color, making the painting process proceed more smoothly. The course will include demos, class discussions, and individualized feedback for each assignment.

Meg Nottingham Walsh, an award-winning painter and former National Geographic editor, offers a unique artistic vision that invites viewers into her world, capturing serene moments that often pass unnoticed. With paintings drenched in light and color, she conveys the lush hues of nature with heartfelt honesty. Characterized by simplified shapes, limited values, and glowing color, her work has a strong abstract element while remaining rooted in realism. Her landscapes, which often feature scenes from the Chesapeake Bay and Blue Ridge mountains, resonate with those familiar with these areas. Her ability to evoke an emotional response through her paintings makes them more than just a visual experience; they are journeys into the heart of the landscapes she portrays.

Meg has been recognized with numerous awards at national juried exhibitions and plein air competitions, and she is represented by galleries in Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia. Her landscapes are featured in the book “100 Plein Air Painters of the Mid-Atlantic” and can be found in the collections of the Academy Art Museum, in Easton, MD, the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD, Georgetown University Hospital, in Washington, DC, and Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, VA.

A juried member of the historic Washington Society of Landscape Painters and the Salmagundi Club in New York, Meg lives on the scenic Eastern Shore of Maryland, where she teaches painting at the Academy Art Museum in Easton. https://www.megwalsh.com/
