In this four-session course, we will explore elements of the marine landscape such as sky, water, and shapes that trigger the imagination. Such shapes include boats, fishing shacks, and people along the shore. Throughout the course expect to learn about how to design a successful composition, mix accurate color notes, and experiment with brushwork and palette knife work. We will discuss how to create a marine painting that communicates the scene without spelling everything out in detail. All instruction will be in oil and include live demonstration. Critique will be given via message board with some in-class discussion. Students should be prepared to supply their own photographic reference material to complete lessons.
