Paint loose and free with palette knives and expressive brushwork while maintaining solid principles of design. By setting ourselves up with strong compositions, harmonious color palettes, and a plan to maintain correct values we pave the way for the freedom of paint application. We will employ a variety of fun exercises designed to build confidence and individual expression. The emphasis will be on process, exploration, and developing new habits.

Plan to paint from your own reference photographs of landscapes, marine subjects, people in the landscape, and/or floral still life. You can also choose to paint plein air, or from your own still life setups. Painting from life is always encouraged. Oil painters and acrylic painters of all levels (some experience helpful) will benefit from this workshop. Demos and instruction will be in oil.

Known for her vivid, textured oil paintings characterized by interpretive impressionism, Lynn Mehta is an award-winning artist living in Virginia. Her art is a reflection of her connection to the ever-changing visual world around, blending abstract shapes and forms inspired by a wide range of landscapes and elements.

Growing up along the Pacific Ocean, Mehta has been an artist as long as she can remember and was inspired by the work of her mother who painted outside. Mehta earned her B.A. in Art from San Diego State University, and has studied with an impressive list of acclaimed artists in the US and abroad.

A distinguished member in a host of organizations, Mehta holds Signature Membership Status in the American Impressionist Society, the Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association, and the American Society of Marine Artists. Her broad membership includes the Salmagundi Club in New York City, the Washington Society of Landscape Painters, and Oil Painters of America.
