Taking lessons from direct observation and from initial impressions of a scene we will go big with larger paintings over this 4-week course. Field studies, color sketches, and thumbnail compositions become invaluable tools in the process. We will discuss the success of these tools and plan out our large studio paintings with these lessons in mind. In addition to making a plan, emphasis will be placed upon expression, the exploration of our media, and inspiration. Each class session will begin with instruction and live demonstration. Critiques will be given through the online discussion board and some review during class time. Appropriate for acrylic or oil painters. Demonstrations will be in oil. Students will be expected to paint from their own photo reference material of landscapes, cityscapes, street scenes, marine scenes, people in the landscape, or still life.
