Join painter Lucy Marks for a fun and informative exploration in creating loose and painterly landscapes through observation. Lucy will focus the workshops around working with the group through demos and sharing within the group fun and supportive feedback. All levels and media will be welcome.

Lucy works in oil, watercolour, gouache and pastel herself.  For this workshop she will use oil in the demos however everyone can be free to work in their own medium. It is about the change of head for painting loose not the medium. Lucy will discuss how to approach the painting, choosing a composition, approach and techniques and what you want to achieve.

Lucy Marks grew up in and around Brighton. Lucy has worked for over 20 years as a professional painter. Her practise focuses on capturing landscapes, seascapes and urbanscapes in Oil, Watercolour and Gouache. Lucy is an observational landscape painter, who works en plein air working directly from the subject, out in all weathers and seasons. Observation is key and her compositions are drawn from real places. Lucy works alla prima responding directly to the scene to gain a freshness in her work. She works to capture an impression of the mood, atmosphere, and light. In the studio, she uses her en plein air works and field sketches to scale up her paintings to much larger work.

About Our Online Classes:

  • This class is taught live via Zoom. To take this class, you need a microphone and camera enabled computer OR an iPad /smart tablet OR a smart phone (android or IOS) and a strong internet connection.
  • You will have access to a private class message board on our website where you can share work, comment and ask questions. (Exact use of the message board, critique of student work and general class format is at the discretion of the instructor, please check course description for details.)
  • Class will be recorded and recordings expire 60 days after the final day of the course.
  • Participants will receive an email with the Zoom link and class details 5-7 days before the class starts (don’t forget to check your junk folder).
