Join Lucy Marks, contemporary landscape painter, for a fun exploration of three locations famously painted by John Constable, now repainted in a contemporary style. Using a combination of plein air and studio work, Lucy will paint three of Constable’s recognized paintings from his time on the South Coast of the UK in her loose landscape style. Lucy will work in oil and gouache. All levels and media are welcome.

Lucy is an observational artist who works in oil, watercolor, gouache and pastel. For this course, Lucy will return to three locations famously painted by John Constable on the South Coast of the UK.  Using these three locations, she will paint in both oil and gouache media. She will show how each medium can lend itself to painting loose. Everyone can be free to work in their own medium during the workshops. It is about exploring the way different media can be used to create similar and also different effects, whilst keeping the final work loose. Lucy will discuss how to approach the painting and the techniques she uses and will also look at some of her favorite inspirations.

Lucy Marks grew up in and around Brighton. Lucy has worked for over 20 years as a professional painter. Her practise focuses on capturing landscapes, seascapes and urbanscapes in Oil, Watercolour and Gouache. Lucy is an observational landscape painter, who works en plein air working directly from the subject, out in all weathers and seasons. Observation is key and her compositions are drawn from real places. Lucy works alla prima responding directly to the scene to gain a freshness in her work. She works to capture an impression of the mood, atmosphere, and light. In the studio, she uses her en plein air works and field sketches to scale up her paintings to much larger work.
