Join Lucie Duclos on a field trip to the world of botanicals and mixed media! Explore a variety of techniques and work with lines, textures, shapes and patterns through line drawing, watercolor painting, printmaking and collage. The last class will focus on creating a repeat pattern from one of your drawing, collage or painting. This class is all about experimenting, and playing around with different techniques and watch what happens!
This class is for all levels. Beginners welcome!
Session 1- Botanical LINE ART and WATERCOLOUR
This session is all about sketching and developping your botanical drawing vocabulary using line art and watercolor. Please bring a little collection of leaves and flowers to class, they can be real or just pictures from the internet or books. We will draw loose flowers and shapes in watercolor and then work with a line work overlay with tracing paper.
Session 2- Create TEXTURES with PRINTMAKING
In this session, we will focus on 3 specific printmaking techniques; printing, stamping and rolling to create textures and patterns. Printing with a scratch-foam plate, stamping with sticky back foam and found objects, and rolling with your own handmade rollers (save those toilet paper rolls!)
Session 3- Explore SHAPES with COLLAGE
In this session, we are going to draw with scissors, work with negative space, explore shapes with collage using the papers we created in session 2 and other found papers. Then we’ll then add line work and mixed media.
Session 4- PATTERN DESIGN: Create a repeat tile with your artwork
In this last session, you will learn how to create a seamless repeat tile with your artwork using the cut paper technique. You will also learn how to take a simple element and turn it into an interesting design when you upload it to Spoonflower.com to have it printed on fabric or wallpaper.
