Supply List

Encaustic painting offers mixed media artists a truly revelatory experience, showcasing its incredible versatility. Whether you’re new to the medium or have some experience, this quick-start class requires no prior knowledge, and we’ll use many supplies you likely already have in your studio.

We’ll explore a variety of materials, including my favorite “instant stamps,” ink, watercolor, gouache, and pastels, using both traditional and unconventional tools. Add more spontaneity to your work by combining several types of media both above and below the layers of wax. This method is how I create my own encaustic works, so if you enjoy my art, you’ll love learning how to create your own.

Encaustic is one of the oldest painting techniques, created by mixing pure pigment with beeswax and resin. The mixture is applied hot and reheated to fuse the layers together. Join me with an open mind, ready to experiment and explore new creative possibilities.

Topics covered will include: the history of encaustic painting, layering and carving wax, incorporating compatible media, and setting up a compact and affordable encaustic workspace at home.
