Mixed media artist Larry Calkins draws from history and familiarity to create personal abstract narratives of the events that he encounters in his life.

Working with simple materials and objects, discover how to approach your own abstract narrative and visual repertoire. Using mark making and repetition, you will learn ways to create your own vocabulary that you can apply to any medium.

In this 4-week class,  Larry will  inspire you by sharing techniques and mediums that he uses to create his own “vocabulary.” Materials and techniques will include painting with Posca Pens, using asemic writing, drawing with the encaustic pen tool, frottage, pochoir (stenciling), stamps, thread, White-Out and the humble pencil. The creative possibilities are endless! Participants may use whatever they have on hand.
