Think you can’t draw?  Think again!

Drawing from a grid is great for beginners!  It not only produces an accurate drawing, it also trains your brain to see line, shape, value and negative space. The more you do it, the better you become at seeing these relationships and the less grid you need.  You’ll learn to see what is really there, not what you think is there.

Drawing from a grid is especially helpful when drawing man-made objects, faces and pets.

You could also use this method of drawing from a grid to transfer a sketch to paper, canvas or a panel for painting. And, it’s a great way to enlarge a drawing for use on a big canvas or mural.

Tracing, camera lucida and projectors, while faster, didn’t train my brain as well to learn to draw better.  When using a grid, we can think less about what we’re drawing and reduce the squares to a series of meditative abstractions.

After this presentation and draw-along, you’ll be on your way to finishing a realistic drawing!
