Capture the luminous energy of the coast using oil and cold wax techniques that evoke water, sky, and atmosphere without chasing detail.
This three-week series explores coastal landscapes through layering, mark-making, and intuitive transitions. Using reference photos and imaginative prompts, students will learn how to suggest water, horizon lines, and spatial depth while keeping the work expressive and alive.
This is about mood over minutiae. Flow over fussing. Light over literal.
You’ll Learn How To:
• Suggest water and horizon lines with confidence
• Create depth through layering and veiling
• Use mark-making to imply movement
• Develop soft atmospheric transitions
• Capture light without over-rendering
• Build cohesive paintings from a limited palette
• Reference images serve as a starting point — interpretation and personal expression are always encouraged.
Beginners are welcome. Experienced painters are invited to push further.
