Janet Pedersen – The Building as Subject (Online); Wednesdays, May 28-June 11, 2025

Dates:  Wednesdays, May 28-June 11, 2025
Time: 9:30-11:30 AM Pacific Time/12:30-2:30 PM Eastern Time/5:30-7:30 PM London Time
Level: All levels welcome
Medium: All– Janet will work in acrylic, gouache and flashe paint

Houses, buildings, storefronts, cityscapes… Most have been around longer than we have, and if they are interesting to your eye, why not recreate an old (or young!) building in a painting? Capturing the spirit and character of an interesting looking building is what this workshop will be about. From finding the guiding angles, working either from direct observation (plein air) or from photo reference and picking up on interesting architectural details, you can bring character and intrigue to your architectural landscapes!

This workshop will cover:
Laying the foundation: Working out the big shapes
A word on perspective
The advantage of using a limited palette
Building light (and shadow) into your building subject
Editing: What stays, what goes
FENESTRATION: Finding the rhythm and flow in all those windows…

Janet will share her many approaches to this often visited subject. She will be working in acrylic, gouache, and flashe paint.
