The single most effective way to improve your paintings is to improve your compositions. No amount of exciting brushwork and colour can disguise the shaky foundation of a weak structure. This workshop will use still life as a laboratory for explorations in shape, line, value, color, edge, texture, mark making, and more. Using paper collage, and black and white, and color sketches, you’ll learn how to move the viewer through your image with intention and control, guiding them through a hierarchy of elements and ensuring that their visual journey is satisfying and coherent. The lessons that you learn from still life will be applicable to any genre, from portrait to landscape because, while genres change, the elements of good picture making do not. This workshop is suitable for artists working in any medium. Ingrid’s demonstrations will be in oil.
