Discover methods to elevate typical portraiture in this exploration-based workshop. You’ll learn how to move beyond simple likeness to create portraits that feel more expressive, contemporary, and uniquely yours.

Our focus will be on:

• Creating compositions that combine your portrait subject with personal elements from other photos, your environment,  memories, and your imagination.
• using underpainting and unexpected color in a way that feels both meaningful and playful.
• Stylizing, simplifying, and incorporating elements to reflect mood, energy, and narrative.

Throughout, the emphasis will be on realistic, plausible portraits—elevated through bold choices, creative play, and a spirit of experimentation. Whether you’re working from life or personal photos, you’ll leave with new techniques and a refreshed sense of freedom in your portrait practice.
