Sunsets, backlit flower petals, sparkles on water, the radiance of a child’s cheek: nature is full of glowing moments created by light interacting with colour and texture. As artists, working with our coloured pastes, we often struggle to recreate that magical glow.
This workshop will focus on different methods for achieving luminous passages in paint. We’ll experiment with both tonal and colour approaches as well as different paint application techniques.
The workshop will encompass:
the power of transparent pigments to transform dull areas into glowing ones
identifying the precise colours to use for glowing interactions
creating luminous shadows
making light shine
brushwork and edges to enhance glow
alla prima and wet-over-dry painting techniques for luminosity
This will be a workshop for experimenting and exploring the many options that painters have for making something glow.
Our subjects will be both your own photos and simple still lifes that you set up in your individual studios.Experimenting with actual objects will help you to tackle photos with all of their built-in inadequacies.
