Learn to paint complex, confident works full of glowing color interactions in this 4-week class.

We’ll begin with an in-depth exploration of the restricted palette, focusing on the logic of color mixing, temperature and interactions. Students will learn different methods for creating shadows, how to infuse lights with color, and how to activate colors by manipulating value and context.

Next, we’ll develop simple still life paintings using a shape-based, alla prima approach. Abstract thinking, big brushes, and a fuss-free approach will be key to producing works of loose accuracy and realism. Still life is the vehicle for this workshop but not the goal. The concepts that we cover will enhance the practises of painters working in any genre from portraiture to landscape.

The class is suitable for painters in oil and acrylic. Ingrid’s demonstrations will be in oil.
