Join artist Debora Stewart as she walks you through the steps to develop unique compositions in pastel, gathering inspiration from life and photographs.

Week 1 – Gathering Inspiration:

In this session, artist Debora Stewart will demonstrate drawing flowers from life through the use of contour drawing and value massing. Participants will create quick works with pastel on colored pastel paper working from photo references. Debora will also demonstrate how to prepare print making paper with underpainting of fluid acrylics and other wet mediums and how to use of Liquitex clear gesso.

This session includes lecture with power point and live demonstrations.

Week 2 – Arranging Your Garden:

Use your drawings and photos from week 1 to develop larger pastel compositions on paper. Debora will demonstrate all of the steps required to create a floral work in pastel, discussing color schemes, composition and the use of value to create impact.

We will conclude this session with a thorough critique of individual works in a group format.
