Discover the excitement of perceptual painting with Christine Lafuente. This 5-week course relates the elements of perceptual painting to an understanding of light source: back-lit, side-lit and front-lit compositions. Working from observation, interior or still-life set-up, learn how to create form and space through drawing. Explore drawing for painting, tone, temperature, palette organization and how to key a palette in response to the direction of the light source. Be prepared to rearrange studio furniture and move around in your personal painting space.

A native of Poughkeepsie NY, Christine Lafuente received an A.B. in English from Bryn Mawr College in 1991. She then moved to downtown Philadelphia to earn a Certificate in Painting and Printmaking from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. There she was awarded a Louis S. Ware Memorial Scholarship for European Travel. While Artist-in-Residence at the Fleisher Art Memorial from 1997 to 2002, she began teaching and studied at the Barnes Foundation. In 2003 she moved to Brooklyn NY, where she earned a Masters in Fine Arts at Brooklyn College. This class is taught live via Zoom. To take this class, you need a microphone and camera enabled computer OR an iPad /smart tablet OR a smart phone (android or IOS) and a strong internet connection.
You will have access to an online class group message board on our website where you can share work, comment and ask questions. (Exact use of the message board, critique of student work and general class format is at the discretion of the instructor, please check course description for details.)
Class will be recorded and recordings expire 60 days after the final day of the course.
