Mediums: Printmaking
Level: All levels welcome
Class Dates: Tuesdays, November 17-December 8, 2026
Class Times:

• 1:00 pm-3:00 pm Eastern Time
• 6:00 pm-8:00 pm UK Time

Learn to build a landscape one layer at a time in this four-week online woodcut class. Using multiple carved blocks, students will explore how overlapping shapes, colors, and textures create depth and atmosphere.

We will look at American Arts and Crafts printmakers such as William S. Rice, Gustave Baumann, and Frances Gearhart, alongside examples from traditional Japanese woodblock printing.

Students will develop a landscape image, separate it into color layers, carve multiple blocks, and bring the print together through registration and hand printing. Demonstrations will cover color separation, overlapping forms, texture, and layering.

We will print by hand onto Japanese washi using Cranfield Safe Wash Relief Inks, making the process accessible for working at home without a press.

Open to beginners and experienced printmakers.
