Catherine Hillis has always been an achiever in the arts As a youngster, she won awards for her artwork and she acted and modeled in print and television ads, later majoring in theater. As a young adult, she worked as a costume designer and actress in repertory theatre.
Hillis moved from the theatre arts to visual art during the 80’s. She paints in all mediums but her favorite is watercolors because of its transparency and immediacy. The artist finds herself drawn to scenes that are neglected, finding intrinsic beauty in the most forgotten of places.
Working both outdoors and in the studio, she travels extensively to plein air competitions including Cape Ann Plein Air; Sedona Plein Air; Telluride Plein Air in 2020, Easels in Frederick; Los Gatos Plein Air; Paint Annapolis; Parrsboro Plein Air, Nova Scotia; Curacao Plein Air; Winter Park Plein Air Invitational; Paint the Peninsula; Plein Air Painters of the Southeast; Bucks County Plein Air and Finger Lakes, New York. The artist’s biography has been included in Who’s Who Among American Women since 2006. www.catherinehillis.com
