In this four-week class, students will dive deeply into the essential components of color: value, temperature, saturation, and hue. Dedicating one week to each concept, we will explore the basic components of color through focused studies and creative exploration. You’ll learn how to use value to describe form, establish mood, and create visual interest within a composition; how to manipulate temperature to evoke convincing light and atmosphere; and how to approach hue more imaginatively, moving beyond the limitations of direct observation to explore expressive, personal, and unexpected color relationships. Finally, you’ll discover how saturation and subtle shifts in color intensity can bring sophistication and harmony to your palette. Through demonstrations and guided exercises, students will develop a stronger, more intuitive grasp of color and gain tools to bring greater depth, clarity, and individuality to their paintings.
