Bernard Dellario – Sketch to Studio: Take Your Field Sketch Painting to the Next Level (Online); Wednesdays, November 9-December 7, 2022 (no class November 23)

Level: All – Some previous painting experience required
Medium: All medias accepted – class will primarily focus on oil painting media

By using field sketches painted on location or done from photo inspiration you will learn how to use this material as a departure point for a bigger more fully realized studio painting.  This will be a structured approach session covering the following:

• How to decide on the best composition for your finished painting by using “value plans”
• How to translate your field sketch/final composition into a larger sized canvas.
• Instruction on accurately transferring your initial drawing onto a larger surface.
• How to maintain the fresh look of your field sketch in your studio painting.

In addition to generous personal instruction, the students will have the opportunity to observe the instructor as he works on his own project to develop a studio painting from a preparatory field sketch painting.

Some previous painting experience required.  For students that do not have a field sketch painting as source material, a photograph may be used as a point of departure for the larger painting.  

Although the class will be primarily focused on the oil painting medium, other mediums will be accepted. There is not a specific supply list for this class, just use what you normally would.

Bernard Dellario earned a Bachelor’s degree from Kings College in Wilkes-Barre, PA with emphasis on finance and art history.  He studied Art at the Art League School in Alexandria, Virginia and attended several workshops with nationally known artists.  He has been a member of the Washington Society of Landscape Painters since 2003. Fondly known as WSLP, one of the oldest active artist organizations in the Washington area, Bernard currently serves as President. He teaches painting classes through several venues, has won national awards and exhibits throughout the Maryland Eastern Shore and Washington, DC region. www.bjdellario.com
