When beginning a sketch, where and how do you arrange your shapes and colors on the paper?  This course explores four different tactics to begin a sketch and construct your composition.

For inspiration, Barbara will discuss artists’ works that demonstrate the composition tactics being practiced each session.  Your subject matter will include figure, still life, and abstraction.

While working expressively and keeping it loose, you’ll explore

• Structures of compositional design
• Color composition and organization
• The power of the paper’s edges

Sketching media will include gouache, watercolor, compressed charcoal, and water-soluble artist crayons.  Some drawing experience is recommended.
