Move between representation and abstraction with award-winning artist Anton Nowels. Attain an understanding of how to develop a
landscape with a variety of tools leading to an individual interpretation. Artists will explore the abstraction behind landscape painting and make choices relating to both concept and intention. The workshop will include discussions of landscape artist including: George Carlson, Russell Case, Glenn Dean, Maynard Dixon, Ray Roberts, Robert Goldman, Len Chmiel, and more. Anton will demonstrate studio techniques with a variety of
tools. All levels welcome.

Anton Nowels is an accomplished artist whose work has been been exhibited on a national level. Nowels is a Signature Member of the American Impressionist Society (AIS) and recently won a Landscape Painting award at the Oil Painters of America (OPA) National Exhibition. This year, he participated in the Brinton Museum’s Residency program in Big Horn, Wyoming.

As a workshop instructor at Scottsdale Artists’ School, Winslow Art Center, and the Tubac School of Fine Art, Anton teaches and explores color theory approaches employed by Charles Hawthorne, Henry Hensche, Sergei Bongart, and Josef Albers. Nowels paints a variety of subjects and experiments with painting techniques. The Maynard Dixon Legacy Museum in Mt. Carmel, Utah, represents Anton’s work and has welcomed him as a guest artist at their Maynard Dixon Country events.

Nowels has studied both contemporary and fine art. At Scottsdale Artists’ School, he earned scholarships to study with Ned Mueller, Camille Przewodek, and Romel de la Torre. At Arizona State University, he studied Interdisciplinary Art and explored contemporary art practices, including performance, installation, and video.
