In this class, we will explore multiple ways to print simplified shapes inspired by Giorgio Morandi. Though he is most known for his still lifes, he also painted and printed landscapes and florals. We will use a range of methods to get at the essence of shape—positive, negative, overlapping, and layering. Printmaking methods will include shaped TetraPak plates, collagraph, and handmade stencils. Monotype printmaking using a gel plate or PET plastic plate will be used in combination with the other methods and to create backgrounds and patterns to enhance your prints. This will be a fun, experimental class to chase away the winter blues! No press needed, but if you have one, additional methods will be suggested.
