Amy Brnger - The Unremarkable Interior (Online); Tuesdays, February 15-March 8, 2022

Date: Tuesdays, February 15-March 8, 2022
Time:  11:00 AM-1:30 PM Pacific Time (2:00-4:30 PM Eastern Time/7:00-9:30 PM London Time)
Level: All
Medium: Oil or acrylic

Painting the interior, especially a familiar one, is an exploration of the quiet, unremarkable spaces in our lives. They can be spaces that are large and dramatic, or small and unremarkable. The latter is the space that will be explored in this workshop. Participants will find spaces in their homes that may hold special or trivial space in the mind. These are the places to spend some time observing and create a compelling image on the artistic surface.

Amy will review aspects of painting the interior that she finds most compelling, will paint a demonstration of that concept each class, and review weekly work that participants post to the online portal. Participants can use her image to work but are strongly encouraged to paint spaces in their own lives.

  • Class 1: Choosing a Space
  • Class 2: Imposing Structure
  • Class 3: Find the Star
  • Class 4: Editing Challenges

Amy Brnger has painted still life, flowers, and landscape for as long as she has been an artist. She uses nature as a vehicle, or an excuse, to paint, and enjoys painting places and things with and about which she is familiar or curious. With her interiors, still life and landscape are often paired together, as both influence one another equally.  These subjects are strongly related, since the kinds of still life objects she often chooses to paint are themselves directly derived from the landscape: flowers; leaves; fruits and vegetables; bird’s nests, etc. She also enjoys painting flowers and food on their own.
