This four session workshop is a visually rich, hands on and informative presentation of the working methods, color, materials and techniques of four great eras of painting.
Spanish and Dutch painters such as Velasquez and Rembrandt, great Impressionist painters like Manet and Pissarro, the painters of Montmartre such as Matisse and Picasso, and the early modern abstract and expressionist painters like Kandinsky and Chaim Soutine will be examined.
Each week Al will present video demos of master painting methods, visual art history and Q&A of materials and methods helpful in all painting approaches.
Students will have a weekly project to create a painting using the approaches and aesthetics of each of the four great eras of painting, which will be critiqued and commented on by the instructor, with a learning goal of enriching the student’s confidence, knowledge and skill.
Open to all media and levels of experience.
