Express a new vision of reality! This class will focus on steps to create serene vista paintings based on the works of Maine painter Fairfield Porter. Learn ways to simplify a landscape with “deep space” and use a limited palette to create one or more landscapes that balance between realism and abstraction. Ways to achieve his style and a live demonstration will be shared each week. Students can work from their own photo references or instructor provided. Work in your medium on canvas, or panel. This class has no supply list.
Week 1: Make small value and color sketches to work out composition in preparation of your larger piece.
Week 2: Creating a color palette and block in large shapes.
Week 3: Adding details, marks making and texture to create movement and harmony.
