Abstracting the Floral for Impact is inspired by 20th century painters such as Emil Nolde, Gustav Klimt and Henri Matisse. Explore compositions in bold color and simplified forms for impact. Students will work in acrylic on canvas or board. Various techniques in paint manipulation will be shared to guide you in a direction to explore your own style and color aesthetic. Inspiration, demonstrations and written critiques via message board will be shared each week. This class does not have a supply list.
Week 1
The Expressive Floral:
Learn techniques in to simplify flower shapes and work in layers with transparent and opaque colors to create an all over rich and vibrant flower garden. Artists explored: Gustav Klimt and Emil Nolde
Week 2
Atmospheric Flowers
Working on a white background, explore ways to create energetic and light filled compositions based on several works by Roaul Dufy, Childe Hassam and Joan Mitchell.
Week 3
Blooms Up-Close
Choose a flower shape and design a piece of 3 or more blooms filling the space. Begin with several compositional sketches before moving to your final painting. You can work vertical, square or horizontal. Various artist examples will be shared with the group for your inspiration.
For this class, participants should have a variety of acrylic colors(like a warm and cool of each primary plus white). Work in a size you are comfortable with. All levels welcome.
