What can the Impressionist master teach us about abstracting the landscape? Abstraction is not simply the dissolving of form but can be explored through amplifying the effects of light and atmosphere through expressive color and brushwork. This course will take lessons from Monet’s most notable series of paintings and apply them to our own interpretations of the landscape. Specific topics include luminosity, pattern, color of light and diversity of mark-making. Open to all acrylic and oil painters.

Winslow Art Center 98110Scott Gellatly holds a degree in painting and drawing from the University of Oregon and has exhibited his work in solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States. A landscape painter at heart, Scott’s work has become more abstracted, with greater emphasis on pure color and gestural mark-making to evoke nature.

Scott is an Oregon native and lives in Portland with his family. scottgellatly.com
