A two-week course looking at fun and playful techniques to create dynamic and exciting flower paintings. Mixing soft pastel and Gouache in new and sometimes unexpected ways we will aim to make bold, original and compelling floral paintings.  Whether flowers in the garden, in the wild or simply in a vase we will look to approach this ever popular subject with a fresh eye and a sense of adventure. This course is suitable for all abilities and will encourage an adventurous approach to the subject matter whilst still resolving to culminate in a successful flower painting.

Richard Suckling studied illustration at Cambridge School of Art and worked for a number of years as an illustrator in London, before heading to the beautiful West of England to pursue a new career as a painter. He works almost exclusively in soft pastels and sells his work worldwide through galleries and privately through his social media pages and website.

He enjoys teaching regular workshops, throughout the UK, as well as pastel demonstrations and workshops on-line worldwide. He was one of the faculty members for Pastel Live in 2022, as well as appearing on Art School live with Eric Rhoads, and is currently a member of the advisory board for the Pastel Today website.

As well as writing regularly for magazines extolling the virtues of this amazing medium, including The Artist Magazine in the UK, articles on Richard’s work have also appeared in Plein Air Magazine in the US, Practique Des Arts in France, Pastel World Magazine in China.

About This Online Class:

  • This class is taught live via Zoom. To take this class, you need a microphone and camera enabled computer OR an iPad /smart tablet OR a smart phone (android or IOS) and a strong internet connection.
  • You will have access to a private class message board on our website where you can share work, comment and ask questions. (Exact use of the message board, critique of student work and general class format is at the discretion of the instructor, please check course description for details.)
