May 12, 2026: Magnolias in Bloom
Though not quite summer, let’s get a jump start by sketching trees in bloom. Painting the large white blossoms of magnolias are a lovely challenge and with eight species native to North America, these trees are real American beauties. We’ll work on subtle color mixes and crisp shadows to bring these blooms to life on paper.

June 16, 2026: Hummingbirds and Trumpet Vines
Gardens provide endless inspiration for artists while also nurturing birds and butterflies. Let’s look at these connections using the bright red-orange flowers of the trumpet vine which serve as hummingbird magnets. We’ll practice perspective by painting flowers from a variety of angles, test paint mixes for bold reds and greens, and create a dynamic and colorful sketchbook page.

July 14, 2026: Vacation Map
Capture your summer travels with a vacation map. We’ll review parts of a map, discuss ways to incorporate unique elements from your location to convey a sense of place, and look at ways to include your experience on the map. Demo/paint along will include ways to paint water, land features, and borders. Bring photos or maps from your vacation to create your own personal map or work along using reference photos provided.

August 11, 2026: Garden Harvest

The late summer harvest comes on fast with an explosion of shapes, colors, and textures. We’ll capture an abundance of vegetables from the garden and farmer’s market, focusing on ways to create a pleasing composition as you add multiple subjects on a single page.
