About the Instructor:

Anton Nowels is an accomplished artist whose work has been been exhibited on a national level. Nowels is both a Signature Member of the Oil Painters of America (OPA) and the American Impressionist Society (AIS). Nowels recently won a Landscape Painting award at the Oil Painters of America (OPA) National Exhibition. This year, he participated in the Brinton Museum’s Residency program in Big Horn, Wyoming. Anton teaches and explores color theory approaches employed by Charles Hawthorne, Henry Hensche, Sergei Bongart, and Josef Albers. Nowels paints a variety of subjects and experiments with painting techniques. The Maynard Dixon Legacy Museum in Mt. Carmel, Utah, represents Anton’s work and has welcomed him as a guest artist at their Maynard Dixon Country events. Nowels has studied both contemporary and fine art. At Scottsdale Artists’ School, he earned scholarships to study with Ned Mueller, Camille Przewodek, and Romel de la Torre. At Arizona State University, he studied Interdisciplinary Art and explored contemporary art practices, including performance, installation, and video. Currently, Nowels is working on a series of large-scale paintings that focus on both representation and abstract impressionism.

  1. When we start painting, we’re channelled into thinking in terms of values. That’s important, but it’s ok to design in terms of colour relationships too. I’ve always felt this pull, and this video has given me permission to be a more expressive colourist. Thanks Anton
