Join Laura Smith for a deep dive into the world of value. It is extraordinary what a difference a change in value range can make to a picture. A tight value range can create a really atmospheric painting whereas a wide value range often results in a striking and dramatic one.
The first week, we will work with a set of pale values. The second week, we will stick to a narrow value range but switch to darker values. In the third and final session, we will expand our range to include light lights and deep darks for ultimate contrast.
Watch your painting take on a completely different mood through nothing but a change in value. You will be encouraged to work in your own style and arrange a still life according to your own sensibilities. It might be interesting to return to the same set-up but you can follow your instincts with this.
Laura is a very encouraging teacher who loves to see your individuality come through in your painting. Her own way of working involves close scrutiny of the subject and plenty of time spent mixing colours with a palette knife.
