Zoë Cohen – Blurring the Lines between Representation and Abstraction (Recording)

Join abstract painter Zoë Cohen for a slideshow presentation exploring the exciting realm where representational art meets abstraction. We’ll look at work by a variety of inspirational artists whose images occupy the spaces in-between realism and non-representation. Together we’ll inquire how we might be inspired to stretch the boundaries of our own artistic practices.

Born in Chicago in 1961, Zoë Cohen was strongly affected by the classic graphic influences of a mid-century urban environment. Everyday exposure to modern architecture, photography, painting, sculpture and minimalist 1960’s design made a deep impression. Zoë’s abstract painting springs from her lifelong fascination with mid-century modern art and design, Abstract Expressionism and The New York School painters. She continues to be inspired by contemporary artists of all kinds. History, art history, social history, illustration, literature, theater, music, dance, photography, and film all inform her work.

What students are saying about Zoë:
“The Studio Time class assisted with a more deliberate abstract practice and kept me on point to keep painting.” – R.S., Georgia, USA
