Paper is sometimes overlooked in painting classes, so I’d like to share why I love working on paper. Paper can be used for sketching, drawing, painting, and printing. In Eastern painting, paper holds equal importance, and many fabric works were traditionally mounted on paper as scroll paintings.
In this class, we will work on paper to explore line, tone, and layering through a printing technique. I will introduce different types of paper as we move from quick drawings to building layers over time. The first week will focus on wet drawing with a brush, the second week on dry drawing with charcoal, and the third week on printmaking using gelli plates.
