Take a closer look at nature in November and create a unique piece of art that celebrates the season. While the glory of October has faded, and summer is a distant memory of colorful gardens and bountiful harvests, the nature of November presents a quiet and subtle beauty that is worth looking for and capturing. This three-session class will focus on composition, hand-drawn lettering, accurate drawing, shading with ink, and adding simple watercolor washes. You’ll choose from a variety of plants, leaves, nuts, seeds, and birds – either your own or from reference photos provided—and add the word “November” to create a finished piece that celebrates the season.
11/6 Session 1 will cover composition and lettering for “November” and we’ll begin drawing selected nature subjects.
11/13 Session 2 will continue to build the composition by adding additional subjects in ink, building dimension with shading, and laying in the first washes of color.
11/20 Session 3 will focus on adding final elements, laying in additional washes and details, and completing the piece.
A Note from Jean: While my classes often focus on working in sketchbooks, I recommend using a larger sheet or block of watercolor paper for this piece. Working at 9×12” or 11×14” will give you more space to build a composition. You are welcome to work in a sketchbook, but I recommend a larger size (at least 8×10 when open) to give you room.
