Add some fun to your sketchbook this summer combining creative layouts and lettering with colorful farm fresh fruits, vegetables, and flowers. We’ll try out some different watercolor approaches and layouts in each session to build awareness of composition and color, while capturing our subjects in lively ways. The text elements will include labels, large text, and lists. You can apply the techniques we’ll cover to many subjects, so you’ll come away with new ideas and skills to inspire your future sketchbook artwork. Each session will include an optional assignment to practice what you’ve learned.
Session 1: Farmer’s Market Shopping List – Choose from a variety of garden vegetables to create a playful, illustrated shopping list.
Session 2: Zinnias – Use a layout lineup and large hand printed letters to showcase colorful zinnias.
Session 3: Apricots – Combine negative and positive painting of apricots with creative text to create a vibrant sketchbook page featuring a limited color palette.
Session 4: Summer Bouquet – Go loose and bold to create a vignette of a flower bouquet, then add a farmer’s market label to go with it.
