Lucy Marks, British landscape painter, will be kicking off our Festival talking about how to paint loose landscapes. Lucy will give a taster of what is important in painting loose, how painting loose is a mindset and an attitude towards your art practice. She will chat about her own art process, and show a couple of short demos in different mediums. Lucy is a contemporary painter who works mainly outside en plein air. Lucy works in oil, watercolour, gouache and pastel. If you have always wanted to learn more about painting loose, come and listen to Lucy’s chat!

Lucy Marks grew up in and around Brighton. Lucy has worked for over 20 years as a professional painter. Her practise focuses on capturing landscapes, seascapes and urbanscapes in Oil, Watercolour and Gouache. Lucy is an observational landscape painter, who works en plein air working directly from the subject, out in all weathers and seasons. Observation is key and her compositions are drawn from real places. Lucy works alla prima responding directly to the scene to gain a freshness in her work. She works to capture an impression of the mood, atmosphere, and light. In the studio, she uses her en plein air works and field sketches to scale up her paintings to much larger work.
