From Rembrandt to William Nicholson, painters have loved to describe shiny, metal surfaces with paint. Renaissance painters used real gold leaf to conjure up halos but it was really with the invention of oil paint that painting metal came into its own. Oil paint has a unique lusciousness which lends itself to the task. Shiny materials such as polished silver or buffed up brass, however, can be intimidating to paint. Where do you start with all the complicated reflections? Luckily, there are some simple approaches that can help enormously. Join Laura Smith as she shares her secrets to depicting reflective surfaces. You will be guided through the process on this two week class and come out the other side relishing the chance to paint silver in the future.
