In this 4-week class, award-winning artist Michele Usibelli will cover the techniques needed to create a successful painting, from foundational drawing skills and compositional design and color theory, to value and temperature shifts, and how to deal with hard and soft edges. Students will focus on seeing their subject in terms of mass and form rather than detail and line. From these fundamentals, students will proceed to work on their own studio paintings using reference materials, including photographs and plein air studies, to build a painting from the foundation up. Michele will share personal techniques for creating interest in your paintings, including “dappled light” effects, vibrant brushwork and creative mark making.
