Medium: Ink & watermedia
Drawing with ink and brush originated in ancient China and continue to be a powerful medium of choice for many great artists over the centuries. In this course, we learned from great ink Masters, including Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Hokusai, Daumier and the fashion illustrator Rene Grau. Each of these artists had the courage and skill to do so much with such a straightforward, simple, easily available material.
The course will introduce you to combinations of ink and water media, to capture the essence of landscapes, portraits, and more.
Step by Step demonstrations will show a range of approaches and methods of these Masters that may look improvised and entirely spontaneous, but are the result of practice, and a deep understanding of this fluid in an unpredictable medium.
Painting exercises will encourage you to combine playful experimentation with accurate handling. Working from reference. You will paint and draw a variety of subject matter. Materials that will be explored and explained, include inks, dip pens, brush, pens, brushes and twigs. Instruction will be given on techniques through demonstration and with reference to the works of the Masters.
By the end of the course. You’ll have gained confidence to explore your own creative ideas with a full awareness of the possibilities of the medium.
No drawing experience necessary.
