About the Instructor:
“My work is based on a recollection of memories: hills I have climbed; coastal paths I have walked; and the perception of an horizon that stretches far into the distance. The time-worn landscape of Wales, England and Scotland is my inspiration. My unconventional influences (graffiti, commercial print, illustration and graphic design) provide my direction. My practice explores the process of cognitive storage and interpretation of visual and emotional memory of the landscape: simplification, repartition, distorted spaces, abstraction, colour and dynamics. A fusion of ideas, experimentation tempered by my knowledge and experiences. Alongside exhibiting and selling to patrons all over the world, I have supplied commissioned pieces to international and domestic interior design companies and my work has featured on commercial packaging and book covers too. I regularly give talks and demonstrations to Art Societies, and have recently become a published author with my first book ‘Experimental Nature in Acrylics: Our Landscapes’ published by Batsford Books.”

  1. Thank you for sharing how you build your memories with paint and canvas. I am drawn to your paintings and will get to know my memories more–the things with clarity and the “suggestions” that work well to hold them in place. I think that’s why I’m trying to say.

  2. Kudos Mx. Bailey, and Winslow’S interviewer+production team!
Perfect by way of PB selecting canvas size (for his demo), limiting one’s palette, process staging, notably: quick-simple structuring (ruled lines H and V), broad strokes, use of tape and straight edge combo to frisket, scumbling (with arguments pro-con), and – knowing when to stop! High point was display of multiple examples of other paths PB took. One glitch, technical: screen res. of videography as posted a bit low-poor: missed visual subtleties of textures that he pursued. That said, online sample of his work did offer me that elsewhere. Thx.!, KB, Saint Pau, MN, USA

  3. I’m so happy that I found your work! I bought your book recently and again, I was not dissapointed. It’s fab. I live in the UK, near Nottingham, in the East Midlands (as you will know) but I travel to Wales alot, to beautiful Pembrokeshire, the Brecon Beacons, Snowdonia and the rest. You capture the controled wildness of this place as well as it’s amazing lushness. Thank you for demonstrating and for sharing all of this.

  4. Paul this was fantastic. I was in hospital when this was live, but has listened to it today and really enjoyed the demo and conversation. I especially appreciated hearing your thought process and your approach to creating. thank you both for a brilliant session!

  5. Enjoyed this very much. Thank you Paul for your generosity and your demonstration. I was also given the book last week for my birthday and found that I really relate to the techniques I’ve seen and read about so far.
